Ex Ospedale Militare- Part I.  Birth of Naples' newest exhibition space

2025.02.19

We at Kultpost extend our thanks to our Italian friend, Alberto Navilli, for introducing us to an extraordinary urban regeneration project. Thanks to him, we are bringing you a three-part series on "La Santissima – Community Hub," an ambitious initiative revitalizing the historic Ex Ospedale Militare in Naples.

"La Santissima – Community Hub" is a temporary urban regeneration project focused on transforming the former military hospital, dating back to 1536. Originally part of the Santissima Trinità delle Monache convent complex, it was repurposed for military use in 1808. Today, it is set to become a dynamic cultural and creative hub.

The redevelopment is managed by Urban Value, a company specializing in urban regeneration, in collaboration with Coop4art, a consortium of social cooperatives dedicated to restoring historic buildings. After their success with Palazzo Fondi, Urban Value won the public bid launched by the Italian State Property Agency, aligning with Naples' temporary use regulations.

Part of the larger Santissima Trinità delle Monache complex and Parco dei Quartieri Spagnoli, the hub spans 7,500 square meters and will soon be open to visitors as part of Open House Napoli 2024.

La Santissima - Community Hub aims to return this historic site to the community, fostering artistic expression, social development, and civic engagement. It will house exhibition spaces, and training and production facilities for theatre, performance arts, cinema, and visual arts. The hub will also feature an events area, a music production space, artist studios, and creative workshops.

Stay tuned as we explore the significance of this remarkable transformation in our upcoming articles. La Santissima is more than a restoration project—it is a bold step toward reimagining Naples' historical spaces for the future.
